Craft Skill

Craft Skill

The craft skill sucks in 3.5. I have tried to make it easier/better/ more conducive to my game play. You can still use the old rules if you want. But… mine are better.
When you take the craft skill like in profession or perform you must pock a specific type of crafting. The options I have created are: Metal Smith, Armorer, Weapons Smith, Leather Worker, Wood Worker, Bower, Jeweler, Tailor, Potter, Mechanic, Cook, Alchemy.
-Alchemy: In the book it states you must be a magic user to craft these items. If you are not a magic user you may craft these items; however, extra materials are required.

Materials: Instead of having the price to craft these items always be 1/3 the price of the item I have created the price for the main ingredients in all items. These ingredients all added together are the cost to craft. Many of these materials you can find on your journey or can be “salvaged” or taken from enemies killed.

Crafter’s Sack: This is a new items that I have created. It is a special bag of holding that can hold up to 500 pounds and regardless will only weigh 25 pounds at all times. It however, can ONLY hold crafting materials (not tools). If you are unsure if something is a material ask the DM.

Unsuccessful Check: DC -4, unable to create item.

Failed Check: DC -5 or more, unable to create the item and you ruined 1/2 of all your materials.

Repairs: Repairs have the same DC and take 1/5 the price (or materials)

Sizes: All armor and weapons are for a Medium Size
-Multiply Cost/material amount by .75 for SMALL
-Multiply Cost/ material amount by 2 for LARGE

Craft time: Craft time is 1 week.
If you make the DC x 2. You can make it in 3.5 days.
If you make the DC x 3. You can make it in 2.5 days.
If you make the DC x 4. You can make it in 1.5 days.
If you make the DC x5. You can make it in 4 hours.

Tools: Some crafts or specific items require tools. To negate specific tools buy Artisan’s tools or Masterwork Artisan tools (+2 to all craft skill).

Masterwork: You are not able to make masterwork items until you have at least 10 RANKS in your craft. Once you are a master there are new fail checks. Some materials can only be used by a master and will have a *.
Normal Item: DC -4, item is mundane
Unsuccessful: DC -5 or more, unable to create the item
Failed: DC -10 or more, unable to create the item and you ruined 1/2 of all your materials.

Materials: You can replace materials with like materials to create different results (e.g. replace iron with mitral).
Replacement Materials:

Hardwood Branch = Large Bone (1d4 to attacks)
Iron = Steel (
1d4 attacks / +1 AC)
